Payee Services

For members diagnosed with a mental illness, it can be difficult to maintain your financial independence due to medical bills and other expenses. At Breakthrough House, we work with members who are 18 years or older who qualify for Supplemental Security Income or Social Security Disability Insurance. BTH, Inc. is authorized by the Social Security Administration to be a Representative Payee for individuals who receive SSI and SSDI. Our staff will manage the member’s monthly finances to make sure basic needs are met. We also teach members money management, spending priority, and how to save for future wants and needs.

What is SSI?

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a government funded income program which provides elderly people and those with disabilities with the income necessary for basic needs such as food, clothing, and housing. SSI is typically paid out to those with low-income.

What is SSDI?

Social Security Disability Insurance is paid into by taxes paid throughout your work history. Once you’ve paid into SSDI for 10 years, you will become eligible to receive the benefits of SSDI regardless of current income.

Each of these programs has specific guidelines that must be met to qualify. The compassionate team at Breakthrough House works with its members to help them navigate the process of applying for these benefits. Contact our team today to learn more about our Payee Program.
